PROPENCIVIR®(Famciclovir) is an antiviral agent. Famciclovir relieves the symptoms of herpes zoster infection (shingles) or genital herpes infection.
PROPENCIVIR®helps the blisters heal faster and reduce the duration of pain and discomfort. Famciclovir is also used to reduce the number of episodes of genital herpes infection.
PROPENCIVIR® is indicated for the following conditions:
- Episodic treatment—The dose of PROPENCIVIR is one 125-mg pill, twice a day, for 5 days.
- Suppressive treatment—For frequent or severe outbreaks, the dose one 250-mg tablet, twice a day, for up to 1 year to suppress the genital herpes virus and help to prevent outbreaks.
- Patients with HIV— Famciclovir is the only oral antiviral therapy indicated for treating genital or orolabial herpes in people infected with HIV. In patients with herpes simplex and HIV, the dose of PROPENCIVIR is 500 mg, twice a day, for 7 days.
- Herpes Zoster— PROPENCIVIR is proven to minimize patient discomfort and shorten the duration of postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) at 500 mg three times daily for 7 days.
